Chapter 13

Saturday mornings are always the best, sleeping in and family bonding. Technically I’ve been sleeping in for like everyday since the break, but for my parents today must have been a holy grail. My head was hanging from the edge of my bed, as the rest of my best was tested on the bed. My body was so weak and tired, I was having a really hard time getting up, for the last hour I’ve been staring at my room from all angles. The ceiling, the walls, upright and upside down. I rolled over my body, my elbows as suppose for the rest of the body. I lowered my head staring at the comforter, my eyes trailing and studying each pattern. I threw my body out of bed finally heading over the the bathroom, a cold shower would surely give me a boost. The cool floor tiles sent shivers through out my whole body, what more would the cold water do. I took off the clothes I had on dropping to the floor, I took a step into the running shower. My body instantly shivered when the cold water hit my body, it took me a couple of seconds before I could get my whole body under the shower head without jumping. The cool shower relaxed and woke up my lazy body, I walked over to my closet. I ran my fingers through the clothes till I chose a black vest and sweat pants, I threw them on the bed before grabbing any underwear. I got dressed before making my way to the kitchen, walking down stairs the house seemed abandoned, like literally. Maybe the figured out I was a lost cause and they fled, they never have work on the weekends, so why weren’t they here. I ignored all the assumptions deciding on making myself breakfast, I was starving. I sat on the living couch peacefully eating my full bowl of cereal as I heard the door knob turn, I could hear chatter on the other side which meant they just went out or something. Soon enough my parents walked in, my father’s right arm gripping on a tiny suitcase, my eyes went from the suitcase to the little figure that walked behind them. Annie walked in both her hands gripping on the sides of the bag pack, her hair looked a bit longer then the last time I had seen her. I placed down my bowl on the coffee table making my way to her, despite the fact I wasn’t a good big sister I just wanted to welcome her and try. My arms were pressed against her small back as I squeezed her roughly. “I just got here and your already trying to kill me.” She freed herself from me, I laughed lightly. I took a step closer to her pretending I was going to hug her again, she quickly noticed and ran to the couch which left me laughing. “Couldn’t I hug my little sister, it’s been weeks after all.” I sat down on the couch where I had previously sat and took my cereal back into my hands. “You were trying to murder me, don’t cover it up. You enjoyed the house to yourself that much?” she wiggled her eyebrows teasingly, I really missed her playful self. “I was bored to death here, if I ever wanted to be alone that much. I would certainly go back to my apartment.” I paused then took a spoon full of my cereal. “But anyway, how was it at aunts place.” Her face immediately lite up when I asked her, if there was a relative Annie loved and always looked forward to spending time at their house, then it was definitely Aunt Mia. She was responsible but at the same time the carefree aunt and so fun to be around, she wasn’t married yet nor had kids, which met all the attention went to you which was so great. I haven’t had a holiday there in a while, the last time I was there was when I went to drop Annie off. “You wouldn’t believe the things we did and the things she bought me. I’m sad it had to end, but guess what.” she was practically dancing in her seat, sometimes I even forgot she was fourteen she acted like a child most times. “I will probably guess it wrongly and with the way you’re jumping, you might exposed. Spill!” “Aunt has a boyfriend, his so nice and super handsome, I hope he becomes our uncle.” This was definitely a surprise, it’s been long since our aunt had a boyfriend or introduced him to us since the last i***t, you know trouble in paradise. She was completely devastated and to imagine they were engaged, that was a year ago or two but I still knew she was hurting. “She actually introduced him to you or you just found them, you know... Doing something?” I raised my eyebrows questioning her and by the way she shifted in her chair, he wasn’t introduced willingly to her. “I came back early from hanging with Tom, I sort of found them kissing. Their faces were priceless, it was as though they saw a ghost.” “So she just introduced you to him? What’s his name?” I placed the empty bowl on the coffee table then leaned against the couch. “Yep.” she spoke popping the ‘p’, then she looked as though she was processing or trying to remember something. “Jones Patton, his name is Jones.” My little conversation with Annie continued for an hour, then we were later joined by my parents. For the first time we actually had a Saturday family bonding time and I enjoyed it. Annie had left some few minutes ago to take a nap, dad went to the store to run a quick errand and I sat on the couch watching TV with my mother, weird but acceptable type of weird. I felt my phone vibrate inside my pocket, I quickly drew it out and there was a message from Eunice. Buddy?: Still up for today? I almost forgot, definitely forgot about today’s plans. I thought I would spend the whole day on the couch but I was sadly mistaken, I wore a smile as I texted her back. Me: Of course, will be there soon!! Buddy?: Waiting.. I looked up from my phone looking at my mother who was gazing at me from the corner of her eyes, I slipped my phone back in my pocket. I cleared my throat twice before my mother turned and looked at me, “I’m going out with a friend. Might be back later.” she shook her head in agreement, I took that as a queue to leave. I grabbed my car keys before walking out the front door.
