The loud noise of my morning alarm woke me up after the continuous ringing in my ears. Finally opening my eyes I locked eyes with my mother.
It always felt like it was her soul purpose to torture me as I slept. Lazily turning to face the wall my mother banged the door, making the noise even louder.
Covering my ears with my hand I pleaded, “Please stop making that hurtful sound! Am up, I swear.” right now I would do anything and give to just get five more minutes of sleep.
As though she was singing and the noise she made was a drum my mother spoke with the beat. “You’re still in bed though.”
Losing all my patience I threw my pillow her way, landing on her face I stood from the bed. “I’m up.” with mischievous smile she disappeared into the hallway leaving me at peace.
I stood for a moment without making any movement till I fully felt like I could walk without tripping on anything.
When I appeared in the kitchen the sweet aroma of cooking eggs embraced me. Mother was on the stove preparing breakfast as father was already having his, acknowledging all of them I sat.
Doing the morning dishes I watched my parents drive away to their Saturday plans. Saturday was their date day, the only day of the week they got to themselves.
As I was expected to do, I cleaned the entire house did every chore I pulled on the weekends. Having some spare time I went up to my room and took a shower.
For the time I had I sat in front of the screen watching a Korean drama series, yes I was one of those people. In my left pocket my phone went off vibrating, pulling it out of my pocket I read the message.
Panda ?: Good morning, are you free today?
The message read, bringing my fingers over the keyboard of my phone I replied to Esther’s message.
Me: Good morning, yes I am
Panda ?: I’m coming over
Giving her the directions to my house I still sat on the couch anticipating her arrival.
Front door of the house swung open with force standing I went over to the door checking who it was. I became very excited for the first time seeing my best friend, Charlotte.
Not wasting time I embraced her in a bone crushing hug, it had been so long since I saw her, I might have missed her.
Charlotte turned shoving me away from her but the more she persisted the stronger I came on. “I know you missed me, but I can’t breath.” she said still trying to free herself.
With one last sad squeeze I freed her. Looking at my best friend with a smile I threw my hand over her shoulder. “I was actually trying to kill you for ghosting me the past week.” I nudged her side, as we went to the couch.
She shook my arm off her looking at me with narrowed eyes, Charlotte spoke. “It’s not even been five days.”
Leaning against her I brought my arm over my chest, completely heart broken. “That’s an eternity.” she hummed in response and spoke nothing more.
As we were in the midst of catching up, a knock came from the front door and I knew exactly who it was.
I got off the couch walking towards the door in haste I opened it at last. Esther stood in front of me with a smile on her face, the type of smile that would also make you smile. Stepping aside I made way for her, after she walked in I closed the door.
Entering the living room I poked Charlotte. “i***t this is Esther Blair, Esther that’s my stupid best friend, Charlotte Dover.” I introduced the two, Charlotte still rubbing her palm against her head.
She glared at me but gave Esther a friendly smile. “How do you know this fool.” her finger was held up pointing my direction.
Esther seemed amused by our name calling, facing Charlotte she replied. “We met yesterday at the neighborhood party. She’s super friendly and we actually go to the same college.”
Charlotte flapped her eye lids a couple of time, not believing a single word mostly on the friendly part. Nodding her head she hummed, “You must have met her when she actually ate and slept. So you go to Kingston university too?”
I snorted at the remark made against me, “Is there another college I go to?” I questioned Char fully irritated.
Holding out her arms she waved them up and down my body. “Like I said, she is NOT friendly bad morning I guess. So what are you taking?” she took her attention back to Esther.
Esther smiled brightly, “I take business, how about you Charlotte?”
Char held up her index finger pointing it side to side in front of Esther. “Call me Char, Charlotte is too long. I’m taking education.” of course she would do that, taking my attention else where I pressed play on my series.
I felt a hand shove my shoulder looking to my left Charlotte wore a big smile. “Is baby irritated?” she asked with a pout.
Pressing my lips together I looked at Charlotte annoyed. “I said never call me baby again. It’s annoying.”
“I know, that’s why I call you baby, baby.” she licked her lips smiling devilishly, this was a complete waste of time.
“You guys fight like a couple.” Esther commented while making herself comfortable on the couch.
She must have been joking there was no way even in hell that the monkey beside me, would ever be mistaken for a couple, together.
“We certainly are not. I would rather die before I ever date her.” I emphasize on the die part, I would actually rather die then date my best friend, mostly Charlotte.
Charlotte dramatically gasped, “That was hurtful.” Charlotte shouted placing her hand over her chest, pretending to be hurt. Mouthing an ouch I rolled my eyes.
“Definitely like a couple. So who asked who who.” Esther pointed her finger between us. If getting on my nerves was where she was going, she was on the right path.
I shook my head, “No, we’re both single and Charlotte prefers boys.”
Char shrugged in her chair choosing to ignore it, I said nothing.
Esther pouted, “Bummer, you would look cute together.” Both I and Charlotte laughed, cute as a couple, not in any parallel world. “Okay I changed my mind, you are definitely best friends.” I nodded in agreement while Char kept laughing.
Esther and Charlotte stayed with me through out the whole afternoon. And had it been the best afternoon ever spent on a Saturday, by me.
