Pissed off

Veronica’s eyes were wide open. She went to move but couldn’t. She felt a strong arm wrapped around her waist, a warm breath tickling her neck. She turned her face to see the source of the warm feeling she was getting from. Her breath hitched at the sight in front of her. His simmering blue eyes were closed, and his eyelashes were thick and long, which she had overlooked. Her hands were itching to pull his long nose. Lastly, her eyes fell on his soft, pink lips, which were slightly apart. She gulped unknowingly. He looked so cute with his messy hair—a smile formed on her lips without her knowing. ‘What the hell are you doing, Vicky! This man lied to you. And you are enjoying his warmth, thinking about how his lips taste!’ her subconscious mind reminded her. ‘Wait! How did I end up in his arms?’ she started to wriggle, but the more she struggled, the more his grip tightened. “Edwin William Robarts! Get the f**k off me!” Veronica shouted, as she was tired of struggling. “5 minutes, little one,” he groaned in a hoarse voice. Whoa, his sleepy voice was so sexy! Shut up, Vicky; Get a grip, girl! She reminded herself once again. “Not a single second,” She pushed him hard and sat up when Edwin loosened his grip. Edwin sat up as well. “Good morning, little fairy. Hope you had a good night’s sleep in my arms,” Edwin stated smugly. Veronica didn’t answer; she just glared at him. “What are you doing in my bed?” she hissed at Edwin. “Little one, I know I am handsome, but you can’t just stare at me as soon as you wake up; you must also observe your surroundings. Well, not that I complain anyway,” Veronica wished to wipe that smirk off him. She just looked around and realized she wasn’t in her bed, more specifically, not in her apartment. “You… Why did you take me here? You took advantage of my drunken state?” she accused him, pointing her finger at Edwin. “You forbid me not to go to your apartment, so I took you mine,” Edwin shrugged. Veronica narrowed her eyes at him. He sighed in defeat. “Now, let’s be serious. Little one, I am sorry. I didn’t want to….” Veronica cut him off, raising her fingers in front of him. “It doesn’t matter if you wanted or not. What’s matter is you lied,” she stated angrily. “NO! I didn’t lie; I just… I just didn’t tell you everything. Trust me, little one; I have my reasons. And I promise I will tell you. Just give me some time. Please,” he pleaded. Veronica was staring at her with an unreadable expression. He still doesn’t want to tell her. It’s enough for her to leave. She can’t stand facing him right now. Veronica stood up, took her purse, and was about to leave when Edwin grabbed her wrist. “You wanna leave?” Edwin asked. There’s a tint of hurt in his voice. “Fine! Go on. I won’t stop you,” he said when Veronica didn’t answer. Veronica was stunned for a second. ‘I won’t stop you, that one word was running through her mind. ‘Why won’t he stop me? Doesn’t he care about me? Doesn’t he want me?’ Veronica thought to herself. “But remember one thing, little one. I didn’t lie to you, and I won’t ever. Cause I don’t want to lose you. You are too precious for me to lose,” Edwin spoke, breaking her trance. There was nothing but sincerity in his eyes. They stood there in silence for god knows how long before Veronica left without glancing at Edwin. Veronica walked down the quiet street mindlessly. Her mind wonders about the pieces of stuff that have happened to her lately. Why does everyone have to hide things from her? First her parents, then Edwin. Why can’t they just tell her everything? It’s not like she is being noisy, but when things are related to her, doesn’t she deserve to know the truth? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Any progress?” Jason sighed, shaking his head. He was working on the mission Edwin assigned him. But no matter how much he tried, he couldn’t get the information he needed. “Come on, Jace! You know you can do better than this!” Edwin yelled in frustration, glancing in Veronica’s direction from time to time through the glass window. “You know you can’t pop off your pent-up emotions on me, right?” Edwin sighed, rubbing his face with both of his hands. “I know. But I can’t help it. When I know, she is in danger. Someone is trying to hurt her. Someone is trying to hurt my mate,” he said the last word murderously, gritting his teeth and gripping hard onto the table. “I am trying my best to find that old lady. But with the description you gave me, it’s hard to progress...” the sound of the door opening cut Jason off. The intruder walked straight toward them and slammed himself on a chair beside Jason, sitting across from Edwin. Both of them stared at him. “Dude, you look awful,” Edwin exclaimed, looking at a tired Sam with messy hair and bags under his eyes. It seems like he didn’t sleep a wink last night. “You smell awful too,” Jason screwed up his face, sniffing the air around Sam. “Are you a dog?” Sam ranted in annoyance. “Sam, don’t tell me you got kicked again?” Edwin teased him, glancing down at him. Sam didn’t answer, just glaring at his bloody friends. How someone’s both best friends can be such dickheads! “By his expression, he surely got kicked,” Jason stated with amusement. Then both of them burst into laughter. Sam ignored them while his mind wandered around last night. He spent his night with his mate in the same bed. This was the first time he had been with a girl, and did nothing… did nothing except stare at her beautiful face. He didn’t realize that he had fallen asleep, but when he woke up, he didn’t find her in his bed; instead, he found a note… ‘f**k off’… it’s what was written on that note. “You know what, guys, now that I see you sulking around all day, I have started to consider myself lucky,” Jason exclaimed, breaking Sam’s trance. This time two pairs of eyes were glaring at Jason. “Alright, back on topic,” he changed the topic to survive from two brooding vampires. “Will, did you smell something that day from that woman?” Jason asked Edwin with seriousness. Edwin shook his head. “She may use suppressant or magic,” Jason nodded in acknowledgment. “Do you think she can be a witch?” Jason asked again. “Witches are disgusting,” Sam beat Edwin to answer. His eyes were flaring with anger and disgust in them. Both of them looked at Sam with sympathy. Before they could say anything, Sam stood up abruptly and stormed out of the room. He didn’t know where he should go to calm himself down. Unknowingly, his leg led him in front of her cabin. He swings the door open. “What the…” Sam’s sudden hug cut off Isabella’s words. He hugged her tightly as if his life depended on her. She was stunned for a second but struggled when she regained her senses. “Get off me, you i***t!” “Please…” Isabella stopped struggling to hear his broken voice, which pained her unknowingly. She couldn’t help but rub his back slowly. She didn’t know how long they were in that position. When they pulled away, she noticed his bloodshot eyes, which broke her heart for some reason. She sat Sam on the couch and wiped the tears from his eyes. “You okay?” Isabella asked him softly. Sam didn’t answer; instead, he stared at her with unreadable eyes. “Can I sleep here? I didn’t sleep properly last night,” he asked her hopefully. Isabella didn’t know what came into her, but she found herself nodding. She was surprised at her own reaction. He gave her a small smile before lying on the couch and putting his head on her lap. She was stunned by his action for the third time in the day. First time when she woke up in the morning and found herself in an unfamiliar surround where he was sleeping beside her just like a baby. Isabella looked down at him. His eyes were closed. She found her hand found its way to his blonde hair. She softly caressed his head, and Sam drifted off to sleep. … Edwin’s Office… Edwin and Jason both stared at the door through which Sam stormed out. “Do you think it was bad timing?” Jason asked Edwin, still staring at the door. “I think so,” Edwin shrugged. “But I didn’t mean to,” Jason exclaimed, desperately looking at Edwin. “Come on, Jace. You both need to stop. How long will you blame yourself? When you both know it wasn’t your fault!” Edwin said, raising his voice a bit. “I know,” Jason murmured. Edwin leaned back into his chair, sighed, and glanced at Veronica through the glass barrier between them, who was typing something furiously on her laptop. “You two fought?” Jason asked Edwin when he noticed the look on his friend’s face. “I made her hate me, Jace,” he mumbled. “Will, she doesn’t hate you,” Jason stated. “She… doesn’t?” Edwin was startled, as if it was the most unbelieving thing in the world. “No. she doesn’t. She cares for you, and I can see it in her eyes. You know what… give her some time; she will come around,” he suggested. Edwin just nodded and glanced at her once more. Jason stood up when he saw Edwin didn’t give him any response; he left Edwin with his own thoughts and left the room. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Whoa! The keyboards are innocent. Why are you torturing them?” Jason joked, coming toward Veronica’s desk. She didn’t reply, just sighed. She didn’t realize she was typing furiously until Jason stopped her. “Wanna talk? Please say yes…” he pleaded with puppy dog eyes. Veronica glanced at Edwin. He was working on some documents. “Anywhere is better than here,” she muttered, and followed Jason. Jason took her to the rooftop. The rooftop wasn’t anything that she imagined. It was cozy. Anyone could mistake it for a small garden. There was a bench in one corner. They settled themselves on the court. They sat there in silence before Jason spoke up. “I have known Edwin from my childhood. He is very possessive of the one he loves. He can do anything for them. And you know you are one of them,” Veronica blinked a few times, not believing his last sentence. Jason chuckled at her reaction. “I am not joking; it’s true.” “But he hides things from me,” she mumbled, almost inaudible. However, Jason’s super hearing power didn’t miss that, making him laugh again. “As I said, he can do anything for them, but he won’t lie. He cares for you, Vicky. He has his own reason for hiding things from you. Give him some time; he will tell you everything when the right time comes,” Jason consoled her, patting her head. “I don’t know what happened between you two, but give him one chance; he won’t let you down. I can assure you that,” He gave her a small smile. “And if he hurts you after that, just tell me once, and I will beat the s**t out of him,” Veronica giggled, hearing him. “Thanks, Jace. I needed that. But I won’t forgive him right away. Let him suffer a little. What say?” Veronica raised her brow at Jason. “I think that will do. In that way, he won’t hide anything from you ever.” both of them burst into laughter. “Thank you,” Veronica said softly, hugging Jason from one side. “That’s what brothers do, Vicky.”
