Veronica POV
The next morning, I found myself in my bed; Eddy must have taken me home. My eyes fell on a note on the nightstand. It must be from him. I rolled on the bed to reach the letter.
‘Take some rest today. Enjoy your holiday and don’t go anywhere. If you need me, you know what to do. I love you. -E.’ A smile crept onto my face while reading his note. He always knows how to make me feel good.
As Eddy said, I am gonna enjoy my holiday. It could have been a girl’s day if Unnie also had an off day. Should I tell Eddy to give her a day off? After a lot of thinking, I went against it. I shouldn’t have taken advantage of Edwin.
After two Netflix movies with popcorn, coke and other fast foods, I dozed off. A sharp pain in my head woke me up. It was the same as the first time. But it was stronger than the previous one. I tried to shake it off, but it didn’t go away. The same nagging sensation with more intensity.
‘Eddy,’ I whimpered in my head. I tried to talk, but nothing came out. I couldn’t think straight. I didn’t have the energy to mind link him. It seemed a strange power was stopping me from communicating with him. But I need him. I can’t fight this alone. I felt my consciousness start to drift off. No. No. No. I need to stay awake. I need to wait for Edwin... I need to...
Edwin POV
I was in my office discussing business with Sam when I felt it. A sharp pain in my head. I closed my eyes for a second, waiting for it to disappear.
“What happened?” Sam asked worriedly.
“Don’t know,” I shrugged, not knowing what was happening. Then I heard. Her whimper. Her soft, pained voice called me.
‘Yes, little fairy, what happened? Are you okay? Talk to me, baby. Are you hurt?’ I tried to mind-link her. But nothing. No response from her.
Damn it! She is in danger. I shouldn’t have left her alone; I stood up abruptly and ran towards the exit.
“What the f**k happened?” Sam asked, following me behind.
“I can’t feel her anymore,” I answered, desperate to go to her, hold her, calm her, soothe her.
“I will drive you there,” he insisted.
“No. I will go for a run. It will be faster,” I stated. Only if I had the gift to teleport. I could have been there with her.
“Are you f*****g crazy? You know the conseq...” he tried to protest, but I cut him off.
“I don’t f*****g care! My mate needs me,” I growled at him. And before he could argue, I dashed to her apartment without being noticed using my vampire speed.
Within a few seconds, I was in front of her apartment. I know she was inside; I can sense her. I ran inside her room only to find her squirming and groaning in pain. My heart sank seeing her suffering.
“Little one, look at me, sweetheart. What happened? Talk to me, baby, please,” I pleaded, crouching down and caressing her head.
“Eddy!” she whimpered, breaking my heart.
“Yes, baby.”
“It’s hurting. More than before,” she said.
“Shush, little one, it will be alright. I will make it stop, promise,” my voice croaked. My blood. It helped her last time and may also help this time.
I fed her my blood through my mouth. And waited for her to stop squirming. I waited and waited, but nothing. “Ughhh,” she cried out, louder this time. s**t! What am I going to do? There must be something which can prevent this evil power. Power? ‘She is more powerful than you can imagine,’ that old lady’s words replayed in my mind. An idea popped into my mind. I don’t know if it will help, but we can only try.
“Little one, can you hear me, baby?” I asked hopefully, and she nodded slowly. “Okay, I need your help. Listen carefully, sweetie; there must be something special in you. Maybe some sort of power or magic. What you have to do is focus and try to centre your power and try to bring it to your fingertips,” I explained to her as I did the same. I felt my magic run through my veins to my fingertips.
I held both of Veronica’s hands firmly. As I did, I could feel her spiritual power as well. It was disoriented but powerful. She doesn’t have complete control over her power. She was struggling, and I could sense it. So I took the lead.
“It’s okay, little one. Calm down. You are doing great. Now just do as I guide you, okay?” I felt her nodding slightly. I laid down, pressing my body against her; my face was in the crook of her neck, and my lips were close to her ear. “Now, try to entangle our magic just like us,” I told her. And I could feel it... I could feel our magic as if they were dancing together in sync; it became one as if they were meant to be together. “Perfect. Now...now guide it to where you felt the pain, the source of the nagging sensation where it started and try to block it or push it away with full force,” I explained to her and forced all of my magic within her, followed her lead. Then fight against that dark magic with our combined magic and all our strength.
Once I felt that dark magic disappear, I pulled away from her but held her close. I stared at her pale face, holding my breath; her eyes were closed. After a while, she opened her eyes slowly.
“You okay, little fairy?” I asked her softly. She nodded, giving me a small smile. Yes, she is safe. She is alright. Now I can rest assured. I mused as my limbs gave up. I smiled at her before darkness consumed me...
