Rare Treasure

Veronica POV One month has passed since we were dating like a normal couple. Edwin was nothing but sweet. Though he hasn’t touched me as he did that day when he confessed to me, only short make-out, a peck on the lips or forehead, and that’s all. I am a little bit disappointed. “Come inside,” his bossy voice rang through the intercom, breaking my thoughts. Sighing, I went inside my hot, sexy, arrogant boss’s office. Did I say he was sweet? Well... Only when he was out of the office. Inside the office building, he was a walking volcano. “You called?” I asked him. He pushed a paper in my direction. “What’s it?” he was angry as hell, and I could tell that by the sound of his voice. “My application for leave of absence,” I shrugged. “I decline,” he muttered. “Oh no, you don’t,” I crossed my arms over my chest, challenging him. He smirked. “I am in-charge here. And my decisions are the final say,” he stated smugly. I so wished to wipe this smug face of his. I slammed my palm on his desk. This time I was beyond angry. Who the hell did he think he was? He can’t control my life. “In my life, my decision will be the final,” I raged, glaring at him. He sighed. His eyes softened. “I have told you that I will help,” he insisted. “I don’t need your help,” I argued. We have been running around the circle since last month. He wanted to help, and I continuously refused him. This was my battle, and I wanted to fight this alone. “Then forget it; I won’t let you do this alone,” he exaggerated. “You are a dickhead,” I muttered. There’s no way he would listen if I argued. I need to play cute. So, I sat on the ground at the centre of the room and looked at him with my best puppy dog eyes. “How can you do this to a weak and innocent girl like me,” I sniffed with a pout. He scoffed. “Which weak and innocent girl shouted and argued with their CEO and called him dickhead?” he taunted, raising his brow. “You...!!” I snapped, fuming with anger. My tears threatened to fall; He sighed and kneeled beside me. “Fine. I will approve your leave of absence. You can do whatever you like but be safe. Okay?” my eyes lit up. “Really!” he gave me a small smile and pulled me up with him. I pecked his lips, but he had another idea. He pulled my waist to his chest, cupped my face, and lowered his head, then pressed his lips on mine, licking and tugging my lower lips. I moaned. Our kiss was interpreted by the sound of the door opening. “Will, can you...” Jace stopped seeing me flushed. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt. I will let...” I cut him off quickly. “No, no, I am leaving,” I glanced at Edwin, who was busy cursing. ‘Why the hell does no one know how to knock on the door in this company!’ he muttered. I was about to leave when Jace stopped me. “Did you piss him off?” he asked amusingly. “A little,” he chuckled at my words. Giggling, I went outside, leaving them alone. Sitting at my desk, I started to think, is he really gonna let me do what I want? I looked at him through the glass window and found him staring at me. ‘What’s on your mind?’ I asked him through our mind link. I came to learn that it’s a mate thing among vampires. Only mated vampires can mind-link each other. But for a strange reason, we can talk to each other even before mating. ‘Nothing,’ he shrugged. ‘Liar,’ he chuckled, hearing me. ‘I love you,’ this word still skipped my heartbeat whenever he said that. I am still not used to it. Shrugging him off, I started to concentrate on my words, hoping he wouldn’t interfere with my work the next two days during my absence. --------------- The following day, I woke up as usual, though I didn’t need to go to the office. But there’s a lot of work I still need to do. Edwin has already mind-linked me hundreds of times. Saying good morning, asking if I need any help or not, telling me to be safe and so on. I don’t know why, but he is a freaking nervous wreck when it comes to me. I mean, I am not a little kid. Well, compared to him, I am, but I am not going to tell him that. Pushing my thoughts aside, I got ready and took the only clue I had to find my parents, the necklace. During the day, I visited almost every jeweller shop in Mexico. But the only answer I got was... “Sorry, mam. We don’t know much about the necklace. In fact, it’s the first time I have seen such a rare design. It’s kind of unique,” yeah... That’s all I heard from the previous owner as well. I whispered to myself. “Okay. Thanks, by the way,” saying that, I left the shop. The next shop was out of town. I wish I could get something. Any small details are alright for me now. I was standing outside the jeweller’s shop. When I saw it was out of town, I didn’t think it would be in the village. The place was not quite as busy as the city. ‘At least the place is beautiful,’ I thought to myself. The owner of the shop was an old man in his late sixties. “How can I help you, dear? I don’t think you came to buy anything from my shop,” well... old eyes can’t be deceived. “Actually, you are right, grandpa. I want to know something from you. Umm... Have you ever seen this kind of necklace?” he took it from me and took it near his glasses to see clearly. “Fascinating,” he whispered to himself. “Let me see,” he took his magnifying glass and started to examine the necklace. “How did you find it?” he asked me, shocked. “Umm... I,” I was debating whether to tell him or not. “Is there something weird about it,” I asked, avoiding his question. He laughed. “No, no, there’s nothing weird about the necklace. Actually, it’s made of a rare material which is so hard to find. It’s so rare that it has been considered extinct for centuries. Lucian Valley. It’s the place where it used to be found. But the place was destroyed during a war nearly 800 years ago,” I gaped, hearing him. “What’s the name of the material,” I asked him. “It’s... Umm,” he tried to remember the name. “Drilycanite!” he shrieked as if he had found a rare treasure. I chuckled at his enthusiasm. “It might be your heirloom. It’s a precious treasure. Keep it safe, dear. It will protect you,” he told me gently. “Thank you, grandpa,” I thanked him and exited the shop. At least I found something. Feeling content, I closed my eyes and mind-linked him. ‘Eddy, you don’t need to hide anymore.’ He followed me the entire day. When he told me to do whatever I wished, I had a feeling that he would do something like that. Within a second, he appeared in front of me. He pecked my lips and whispered, ‘I missed you.’ “You missed me after following me the entire day?” I taunted him. He laughed. “I miss holding you, kissing you, teasing you, inhaling you,” he murmured, inhaling my scent deeply. This gesture always makes me wet. And thinking that he could smell my arousal, heated up my cheek. Damn, this superhuman sense! He chuckled as if hearing my thoughts. Well...well... He can listen to my thoughts. Damn it! He again pecked my lips. “Did you find anything?” he changed the subject, and I am thankful he didn’t tease me this time. “He said it’s made of a rare material that used to be found in the Lucian Valley, which was destroyed 800 years ago during a war,” I filled him with the details, staring at the necklace in my hand. “Lucian... Valley,” Edwin whispered the name as if he had heard the word and tried to remember. “Ugh...” he winched. I snapped my head at him only to find his eyes shut, clenching his chest over his heart. Lines of pain featured across his face. His breathing grew heavy. A wave of panic grasped me. I cupped his face, making him look at me, and placed my other hand on his heart, squeezing it, trying to reduce his pain. He relaxed, leaning on my touch. Slowly he opened his eyes and smiled when our eyes met. He raised his hand to wipe my tears. “I am fine,” he assured me. “What happened?” I asked. “Memories,” I frowned in confusion. He pushed a strand of my hair behind my ear and kissed my forehead. “There’s something I have forgotten. Whenever I tried to remember it, my heart started aching and wouldn’t stop until hours. But this time, the aching just disappeared as soon as you touched me,” he said with a smile. “What does it have to do with Lucian Valley, and why remember something which hurts you?” I asked, still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing. He shrugged. “Maybe the place has to do something with the memory I have lost, and maybe the memory is so precious that I want to remember so badly, even if it hurts like hell,” he answered, pulling me closer to him, hugging me and kissing my head. “Then, next time, try to remember only when you are cuddling me,” I mumbled. He chuckled. “Why?” he asked with amusement-filled eyes. “You said your pain disappeared when I touched you. So maybe you wouldn’t be hurt in the first place if I held you,” I suggested. He smashed his lips on mine. “Hmm... Good idea. I will try it next time,” he mumbled into my mouth. “Hungry?” Edwin asked when we broke the kiss. Just then, I realized how hungry I was. I nodded at him. He gave me a soft kiss before leading me towards a diner, entangling our hands. “You did great today. Leave the rest to me,” he spoke while walking down the street. I nodded, knowing he would eventually step in even if I refused it. “This place is beautiful, isn’t it?” I tried to start a conversation. He nodded. “There’s a legend that this village was founded by a couple who were madly in love but couldn’t be together because they were from different species. So they built this place for those who want nothing but love despite their species. It’s the only place in the world where lots of supernatural lives in harmony. They fight together, not with each other; they only know how to love and cherish someone,” he describes with a little smile on his face. His face shines under the moonlight; he looks more handsome. I gawked at him like a creep. “Little fairy,” he called, and I hummed, “don’t stare at me this way, else I will take you right here,” I lowered my gaze instantly, flushing at his word. We reached the diner soon enough. We both sat at a table around the corner and ordered our food. We decided to talk until our food arrived. Edwin told me the owner of the diner was a siren. He also told me that she once tried to compel him. “And then?” I asked excitedly. “Then what. I am a vampire prince, sweetheart. No one can lure me other than you,” I blushed at his words, making him laugh. We were chatting and laughing when the door opened, and a man stepped in. He walked inside the diner in a way that he belonged there. That he ruled this place. He has this aura around him. He looked as if he was in his early 20s, but I knew better. Don’t judge the age of the supernatural by their appearance. He was handsome, hot as hell, with his red hair, bright golden eyes, and muscular body. He was the same height as Edwin, 6’4”. Any woman can drool over him. Well... me?
