Chapter 15

606 Words
Crow had begun to follow two children down the streets. A shadowed figure walked beside him, explaining what he was seeing.  “You see the tall one? That was you.” “I kinda figured that on my own.” “Hey now, I was just saying.” The two children appeared to not have eaten much, their bones becoming practically visible through their skin. The smell of bread was being wafted into the air, its origin was a bakery just down the street.  The younger White couldn't resist the smell and began running toward it.  The younger Crow tried to stop him, “Wait!” he called out. There was, however, no reply, as White continued to run to it. Crow ran after his brother, who was already entering the bakery.  Screams and yells were heard as Crow got closer to the bakery. A second later, White ran back out, bread in his arms.  A big, muscular man had been running after him.  “Damn rat!” he yelled to the boy.  Crow intercepted the man, pushing him away from White.  “Go! Get out of here!” He yelled to his younger brother.  The man, caught a bit by surprise, yelled to the boy pushing against him. “What are you doing! You’re letting him get away!”  When the man noticed the boy in front of him was doing it on purpose, his anger took over. He raised a fist to the boy in front of him.  The boy, out of instinct, began to punch the man in the gut, his scrawny arms not doing any significant damage.  The man launched his fist into the boy’s stomach, knocking the air out of him and causing him to fall to his knees.  The boy clutched at his stomach trying to get some air.  The man attempted to run after the thief but was stopped by a hand on his leg. He turned to the boy on the ground looking him dead in the eye. “Let me go.”  The boy looked up defiantly, beginning to catch his breath. He shook his head.  The man began to kick the boy with his free leg. The first kick was aimed at the boy’s face, causing the boy to bleed from the nose, however his grip still remained on the man’s leg. The man then kicked at the arm holding his leg, causing the young Crow to scream from the pain.  Unable to watch this any further, the older Crow ran to the boy’s aid, attempting to swing a punch at the man. It went through the man’s body.  The shadowed figure looked at Crow, “This is just a dream and it already happened. There is nothing you can do.” Crow looked down at the younger boy. “Damn it.” The man prepared another kick, this one landing once again on the boy’s arm, causing it to break. The boy let out an ear-piercing scream, causing the older Crow to begin to shed tears and instinctively grab his own arm.  The man began running in White’s direction but gave up halfway through. He turned back and walked back to his bakery, nailing the boy in the ribs before turning back to his store. He looked back at the boy, noticing something was wrong. The boy didn’t scream from the kick to the ribs. He quickly scanned the boy’s body and noticed the arm wasn’t broken anymore.  “What are you?” the man softly muttered, fear reflecting off the shivers of his voice. Crow turned to the shadowed figure, “explain. Now.”
