1.| MEET MYRA! |
Myra’s point of view Why God? Why me only? One of the tires of my car got punctured in the middle of my way home and the cherry on the top is that I didn't even have a spare one in my car. First, my flight from LA got delayed. I reached home at midnight and then, this happened early in the morning, it was the unluckiest day of my life. I went to my dad's company to drop off two important files that he had forgotten at home. He was talking to one of his business partners when I got there. He did not look comfortable with him. Believe me, that old man was giving me negative vibes. His way of looking at me was kind of weird, like a creep. I ignored him and got out of his office as soon as possible. I was making my way towards the elevator and suddenly collided with a person. I was waiting to hit the floor and for the shooting pain, but I was saved by two strong arms. I opened my tightly closed eyes and saw a man, a handsome man, just like a prince charming from a fairy tale. My cheek turned red and I diverted my eyes. This is not me. But my illusion was broken by the way he touched me. But, now, somewhere, it was making me uncomfortable. I wriggled a little in his grip, but still, he was holding me. I looked into his eyes directly and said a little loud," Leave me!" He immediately loosened his grip on me and I got out of his hold. I muttered a thank you before leaving from there. What the hell was that? I shook my head and took out my phone to book a ride but, as usual, being unlucky in the morning, there was no cab nearby. No choice but to call someone to pick me up from here. I quickly called Rahul, my male best friend, the only one who would be accessible right now. . . . . . After two months, I just want to throw this phone out of the window. Why? Because this freaking thing has been ringing for the last ten minutes, disturbing my peaceful sleep. It rings up again…! I am seriously going to kill this person…..!! “I have been calling you for the past fifteen minutes, and you are continuously rejecting it. Where the hell are you, Myra? Did you forget what plans we have for today?” Nitya Sinha, my best friend, shouted as soon as I picked up her call. Then it hits me that our plan to meet up after a month is still a day left. “I was sleeping. You disturbed my peaceful sleep. I just want to kill you.” I let the words out of my mouth in between continuous yawning. "You forgot about it right," she said, or you could say, almost yelled at me. “I remember baby, It's on Sunday. That means tomorrow, right,” I said, rubbing my eyes. I want to go to bed again. “Tomorrow? Really what is the day, today baby?” She said in a sweet voice. Something is wrong…!!! I dragged my phone back from my ear towards my eyes and guess what that today is Sunday, and it’s past four in the evening. My mind got alerted, came back to a conscious state and dropped the plan to kill her now. She is not going to leave me. She was studying medicine with me in the US and came here a month after me. Then we both got busy with another exam. “Don't tell me you are waiting for me at the café. I am so sorry baby.” I pleased her. “You have only 15 minutes to get your a** here or be ready for consciousness.” She said. “I will be there soon, babe.” I immediately tossed my phone on the bed. I don't even know if the call was still going or if she cut it off. I took out the outfit from the wardrobe and rushed towards the shower. After getting dressed up in a plain top and ripped blue jeans, I made my way downstairs. "Mom, I am leaving. I will be back soon," I announced while tying the laces of my shoes. I love these pairs. “Don't you think it's too early to get engaged, Swati?” Nitya said, or you can say, almost yelled, still shocked by Swati’s engagement news.8 “And what the hell is this arranged marriage, huh? Are we still living in the early 20th century?” She continued with an I-am-disgusted look on her face. “Nitya, stop it, girl. You know I can’t go against my parent's orders." Swati tried to explain to herself with a slight smile on her face—the most obedient child in this world. I know the reason for her smile. “Why the hell are you smiling, you stupid girl? And order? What do you mean by order? Are you even their daughter? How could they force their daughter to get engaged to anyone? You don’t even know that man. Like him is another thing. Just put some sense in her Myra.” Nitya said, rolling her eyes at Swati. “Who said I don't like him?” Swati almost yelled at Nitya. “What?” Nitya looked at me with a face full of confusion. “He was a crush when her father was posted in Dehradun,” I said and chuckled. “Is it true, Swati? You didn’t even tell me.” She looked at her with disbelief on her face. Swati Dubey, one of my cousins and one of my best friends, is going to get engaged soon. And right now we are discussing no, not discussing but practically scolding her. “It was a long time ago, a stupid teenage crush type. I got to know about him a few days back.” Swati tried to explain to herself. “Do you still like him? What about him? Does he like you?” Nitya asked. “I don’t know.” Swati let out a tired sigh. “Don’t tell me you haven’t talked to him till now. Oh! god.” Nitya said dramatically. “Myra, why are you not saying anything?” Nitya asked, sipping her coffee. "I am not interested in this marriage topic babe.” I said, pulling my phone out of my pocket as it was ringing. “Result is out, babe…!!” Rahul shouted from the other end of the phone. "Oh! My." My heart started to thump loudly against my chest. "Then?" "What then? Check it out yourself. By the way, I cleared it. Best of luck!" He said and cut the call. "What happened?" Nitya asked, looking at my nervous face. "Results are out," I replied.
