Grady Tucker and his sister, Emily, are forced by their father to relocate to Fever Swamp.

Their father is a biologist who is studying the effects of the swamp environment on a herd of deer. To do this, he keeps the deer inside a pen outside his family’s new home.

With their exploring spirit, the siblings go to the swamp. However, they quickly become disoriented. Eventually, Grady and Emily stumble upon an ancient shack.

The two enter to check if someone’s inside. But they got scared away by a strange-looking hermit who lives there. The children rush home to inform their parents what has occurred, and their father assures them that the old hermit was quite harmless.

Grady then befriended a local boy named Will Blake. Will told Grady how the swamp was named. According to him, it’s because several years ago, the people living in the area had an extreme fever. The fever caused death or madness to everyone who had it.

One night, Grady quietly sneaks outside to know who the werewolf is. He then sees Will, who also claims that he wants to investigate.

Suddenly, the werewolf jumps on Grady. As the creature attacks him, Grady discovers who the werewolf really is.
