In a society with deep-rooted cultures of class hierarchy, and a twisted procedure of leadership, the drama couldn’t be more fun. You’d agree, being put in a world where every move is monitored and the slightest rap of the mouth could leave you dead, one can’t help but pay attention to the minute details.

Electric Idol puts Psyche in the spotlight. Beautiful Psyche, one that could never fit into the description of the Olympians. She finds herself in a difficult position, all because she helped the wrong person. Psyche would argue that killing someone who helped you is a higher degree of wickedness than a person can ever reach. How will she survive this? If she does, what next? The order is out, and Psyche is at the top of this hit list.

Part 1: Plot Summary of Electric Idol

Electric Idol by Katee Robert follows Psyche, daughter of Demeter. She is once again taken to another party by her mother. Demeter hopes to match her daughter with Zeus. This comes as no surprise after the fiasco with her other daughter Persephone who ran off past the river Styx, right into hades’ arms.

Psyche avoids the party, but encounters something more strenuous. She meets Eros, son of Aphrodite. He is injured and bleeding, but she doesn’t run away. Running away is common sense when you encounter Eros whose reputation of violence couldn’t be more specific. She helps Eros with his injuries, but they are photographed in a very misleading position.

The scandal explodes through the upper cities and everything comes to a head when Psyche is targeted by Aphrodite. She wants Psyche’s heart, and Eros will be the one to carve it out.

Part 2: Main Characters of Electric Idol

Psyche

Electric Idol: Psyche

She is Demeter’s daughter. A young woman who has a lot more going on in her head than anyone would believe. Psyche handles her thoughts very well. She understands that she doesn’t fit the Olympian image or what they think it should be, but Psyche doesn’t let it bother her. Or she tries not to.

Meeting Eros unexpectedly, she can’t help herself and helps him. Never did she expect that it would be the reason she would die. Is there a way to get out of this? Or will Psyche have to pay the price for her reckless kindness?

Eros

Handsome and every bit trained to the word dangerous. He is Aphrodite’s son and her killer. In simpler words, she gives the targets and his job is to act accordingly.

He encounters Psyche but notices she doesn’t run or shy away from him. He watches her bandage him up and notices something different about her. Likely something she thought she hid well from sight.

When the scandal is exposed, his mother is set on the heart of Psyche and she won’t take no for an answer.

Electric Idol Novel

Chapter Two

Psyche is face-to-face with Eros who is bleeding. They know each other but had limited interactions in the past. Yet, here she was offering to help with his wound. Eros refuses, but nevertheless, Psyche is persistent when she sees how bad his injuries are.

Subsequently, they basically launch into a debate about monsters. Psyche assures Eros that he’s not a monster. I mean we can all agree that there are varying degrees of monster, Eros knows he has his league.

Psyche finishes up, but as she leaves ahead of Eros, his touch on her back makes her nearly tilt over. He catches her in time and she looks up at him. It’s at this moment that they are photographed. A story for the gossip mill has arrived.

Chapter Three

Eros listens to his mother push him to kill Psyche. She doesn’t seem to see the reason why the girl shouldn’t be killed, and Eros knows why all too well. He can see beneath all her dismissive gestures that she is jealous of Psyche. Even her hateful ‘fat’ comments are all because she can never attain the level of Psyche’s beauty.

And with Psyche’s mother, Demeter, proving to be the viper in her garden, Aphrodite sees it as killing two birds with one stone. She would metaphorically carve out Demeter’s heart by literally carving out Psyche’s.

Eros ultimately has to accept this task or there would be consequences.

Electric Idol Chapter Three

Chapter Five

Eros arrives at the meeting place and waits for Psyche to come. He had already struggled with his choice, but no more. She had to die. Eros knew what awaited if he didn’t bring his mother her heart. He didn’t feel guilty at all, even though Psyche was a nice person.

When Psyche arrived, she comes with the thought that they would be finding out a solution to the problematic scandal. However, she is proven wrong when Eros indicates his true intentions. Afterward, Psyche tries to convince him how much of a bad idea it would be to kill her. She practically pleads and Eros is caught in a bind.

Psyche is not his enemy, she is not a bad person but here he was about to repay her kindness with death.

Electric Idol Chapter Five

Electric Idol is quietly subtle with its literary tropes. You’ll get sucked into this peculiar world in no time.
