If human emotions could be molded as a living being, Naomi will be the right candidate to represent ‘rage’. Her immaturity, pessimism and consistent holier-than-thou attitude are the top qualities that makes her the most suitable option. But none of these were innate, or habits that she practiced everyday to harm people and satisfy herself for the pleasure of doing it. It’s a matter of survival, in fact.

She masks off the real Naomi and lets herself be blinded by unreasonable contempt so she could protect herself and her job against one man. None other than her pompous and one hell of a pain in the ass boss–Killian Black, the only man in the world that could push her buttons without even trying. Too dramatic for a one-sided quarrel, isn’t it?

Truth is, Killian doesn’t know she harbors such strong feelings. Nor even aware she exists and works in the club he runs everyday. They’ve never had a one-on-one interaction or has exchanged a single word ever since she worked there. Maybe, that’s why she hates him so much?

Everything changes when Killian took notice of her, and began showing peculiar interest. Naomi instantly rejected him, afraid that he might line her up to his collection of women. But Killian was so intrigued with her hatred, and personality, it took Naomi weeks before she surrendered on pushing him away and finally gave him a chance to prove himself.

Will Killian’s authencitiy be able to break the walls around her heart and make the real Naomi come out of her shell? In what way will Naomi change for the better? And what will she choose, the truth or her pride? Is Killian really just a hurt individual, and still eligible for redemption?

Taming Mr. Black is a simple hate-to-lovers trope, bordering on slow-burn romance and erotica. It explores the deepest point of human emotions, and shows the significance of first impressions.

Here’s a short review about Taming Mr. Black.

Part 1: Simple Plot Summary of Taming Mr. Black

Taming Mr. Black – Naomi Serving Killian

It all started when Killian fires someone, a server like Naomi, for a petty reason. Naomi didn’t like his lack of compassion to his employees, and also the fact that he acted like an A-class prick around women and treat them as irrepleacable materials. People like him is the type of ones that Naomi dislike the most. Overly rich guys who thinks they are above anyone else. Since that incident, Naomi has developed an exclusive resentment to Killian. Everytime he’s in the club, Naomi would switch places with the other serves, just so she could avoid assisting him in his own VIP area.

Naomi’s silent battle went on for weeks. Killian remained oblivious. To her existence, and the fact that he pissed off someone who sees herself as a hero that will end every injustice in the world. Until one incident caused them to collide.

Naomi is appointed as Killian’s server for that night. Though she adamantly refused, there’s no other way to go than do it with confidence. Had she known it would be the same night that she’ll face Killian, and be harassed by his friend, she wouldn’t have accepted the work and just go home instead.

Taming Mr. Black – Naomi Slapping Killian's Friend

Being a fighter as she is, Naomi slapped the guy who touched her butt, and also dismissed Killian’s questions rudely. She left the club, and her co-workers clueless as to what happened. Naomi thought she’d be fired the next day, but as it seems, Killian has no interest on playing the bad guy.

He let her stay on the job, even offering a position that would benefit her more. In terms of money, of course. Naomi didn’t like what he’s doing. With every advancement he makes, she’d pay it with harshness. And with every kindness he’d show, Naomi will deal it with skepticism. Pushing him away only made him more eager to chase her.

Just as Naomi begins to see him in the positive light, Killian is getting disheartened with the way she treats him. He may be an asshole but a man still got feelings. When he was hurt with Naomi’s consistent refusal to accept his advances, Naomi’s view of him changes. And suddenly, the tables has turned. For the better.

Part 2: Know the Characters of Taming Mr. Black

Killian Black

Taming Mr. Black – Killian Black

Self-centered, playboy, and a good-for-nothing billionaire.

These are the traits that instinctively turned off Naomi when they first met. Killian isn’t aware he’s bringing damage than good to people. In simplest terms, a lost cause that needs a full transformation or someone that will knock out some senses to him. Having these doesn’t mean he’s a total bad guy, though, and not eligible for a change. His upbringing is the main cause why he look at people with inferiority.

Naomi’s stubbornness, and outspoken attitude lured him in as he has never encountered a woman who’s bold enough to maintain a conversation with him for more than a minute. His intentions on pursuing Naomi was clear but due to his reputation, it’s a pain in the ass to distance himself from that. Behind the negative words his name magnetizes, he’s a lonely soul who’s in dire need of love, compassion and affection.

Naomi

Taming Mr. Black – Naomi

Stripping her stubborness, quick to judge attitude, and harshness away, Naomi is a wholesome character, She’s family-oriented, as she always put family over her happiness first, knows her own value and she doesn’t need any man to affirm that. She’s hard-working, has clear objectives, and can live on her own. Which is why it’s not unusual that she’s caught Killian’s attention within a blink of an eye.

What’s most important, she’s attractive, and intelligent. Put her in a room of women and it will be hard not to notice her.

Part 4: Conclusive Notes on Taming Mr. Black

First off, I like the dynamics of the principal characters. Naomi’s blunt character and Killian’s happy-to-go-lucky personality really matched up with one another. Their decisions, actions and beliefs are what geared up the plot to progress, making Taming Mr. Black as a character-driven story.

The premise didn’t appeal as much as I expected it to be. It’s quite simple, to be honest. An idea that has been used by so many. But Goddy Francis delivered it with uniqueness that still made it stand out from the rest.

Taming Mr. Black is an enjoyable read. The journey I experienced inside it was bumpy, worthy and very interesting. I might read it once again if I ever have the chance. It’s a complete yes for me, and I strongly encouraged my fellow readers to give this story a chance.
