A tipsy Dorothy chats with her friend Karen through messages. She’s on a business trip trying to seal a deal but tonight she allowed herself to have a little fun and drank a bit too much.
As always, Karen made fun of her for being a virgin and started relaying all the pros of being intimate with a man. Fed up with being pure herself, Dorothy tries to send her a message in which she asks for a naughty video or for a real man in her room.
In mere minutes, a handsome man knocks on her door. Surprisingly, her boss was the man who knocked and as soon as she opened the door, he took the girl in his arms and the two of them shared a passionate night together.
The next morning, Dorothy realized her mistake. Instead of sending the message to Karen, she had sent the message to Everett Lopez, her boss. She gathered all her things and booked another room, hoping that her boss would never find out who was the employee he bedded the night before.
Sure enough, Everett found out who was the woman he had a one-night stand with and asked her to come to him. Dorothy assured the man that no one would find out about their affair but Everett cut her off and asked her to marry him.
In exchange for a one-year marriage, he would help the girl’s mother with her medical bills. Initially, Dorothy refused, lying that she had a boyfriend, but she changed her mind when her mother needed urgent surgery and she had no way of covering the bill.
In her mind, Dorothy believed that Everett wanted her as a substitute for Heather, the company’s gorgeous lawyer, whom her boss seemed to dote on. She honestly thought that the man tried to conceal his relationship with Heather by marrying her.
Every time she saw the two of them together, she tried not to disturb them. Although she felt a terrible pang of jealousy, she instructed her mind to not allow herself to suffer, as she already knew that their marriage would be over soon.
Heather on the other hand also purposely set little traps for Dorothy, making her believe that Everett truly married her for her resemblance to his lawyer and that she truly meant nothing to him.
As time went by and Dorothy found herself in love and pregnant with Everett, she realized that she couldn’t stay in a loveless marriage anymore and in Heather’s shadow, so she leaves with her unborn babies.
Will Everett finally confess his true feelings towards Dorothy and the true reason why he married her?

Throughout The CEO’s Hidden Love: Midnight Temptations And Deep Desires novel, you can definitely see the discrepancy between the way that Dorothy addresses her husband and the way Everett addresses his wife.
Every time she speaks with Everett, Dorothy is formal and cutting, using few words and being respectful. On the other hand Everett is more casual and, although he doesn’t necessarily is as affectionate as a husband should be, he’s also not as cold or distant as a boss should be with his employee.
You can definitely tell the fact that Everett is trying to build their relationship step by step. He is in love with Dorothy, yet he wants to make the girl fall in love with him before he confesses his true feelings towards her.
Unfortunately for him, a series of miscommunications and misinterpretations lead to Dorothy believing that Everett actually loves Heather, while she’s a mere substitute for a year.
Dorothy’s character, her insecurity and self-depreciation is unsettling, yet her determination to fulfill her contract is endearing. She has a personality that simply pulls you deeper into the story. I often found myself wishing for her to finally start catching on to the fact that Everett really dotes on her.
Although Everett is the one giving the cold vibe, he’s actually the one within we see the love spark. He is bold but affectionate at the same time. He puts Dorothy on the spot, yet he protects her with all his might.
Everett and Dorothy’s relationship is rocky nonetheless, but I believe that she’s the one who’s actually responsible for their turbulent journey to finding each other.
She lied to Everett about having a boyfriend in the beginning of the novel, making him insecure about her feelings, she assumed that her husband is in love with Heather, prompting her to refrain from actually showing her true feelings and she never had the courage to actually discuss her doubts with him.
There’s an interesting game between the two of them, as Everett and Dorothy keep coming together and growing apart. It will take an abrupt rupture between them to actually find their way back to each other. They will need time to heal and mature in order to reconnect and start fresh.
