Laritte’s story is vividly heart-wrenching, but seeing how Ian loved and cherished his wife, helping her break her own shell and embrace freedom for the first time made me addicted to this particular manga novel.

The Count’s Illegitimate Daughter Gets Married manga is a light reading, but Laritte and Ian’s romance is intense and alluring.

Part 1: When The Count’s Illegitimate Daughter Gets Married Love Story

Laritte is the unwanted, illegitimate child of a mediocre count, who cheated on his wife and his affair resulted in a daughter. Unfortunately for Laritte, neither her father or mother wanted her, but after her mom abandoned her, the count had no choice but to bring her in his home.

The countess and her daughter Rose despised Laritte, especially for being the proof of the count’s betrayal on his family. Growing up, the illegitimate girl was never considered part of the family, thus no one respected her, not even the servants, who bullied her at Rose’s request.

On the verge of turning eighteen, Laritte is summoned by her sister who tells her she needs to marry a man who is supposedly dead and a traitor.

Rose had fallen in love with Duke Reinhardt when she first laid her eyes on him and convinced her father to arrange her marriage with him.

Unable to deny anything to his precious daughter, the count set things in motion and prepared the marriage, but the impending leave of the duke to war postponed his encounter with Rose. When the news about the duke’s demise came forward, the count had to think quickly to make sure he got the promised dowry from the Imperial Court.

But he couldn’t send his beloved Rose to the dead man’s mansion to take her place as Duchess Reinhardt, so he decided to send Laritte instead.

When The Count's Illegitimate Daughter Gets Married Laritte

As Rose breaks the news to her sister, the innocent girl is taken aback and tries to refuse, causing Rose to slap Laritte hard on her cheek. For the first time, the girl stands up for herself, but her father walks in and admonishes his illegitimate daughter.

Getting ready to punish Laritte by beating her, like he did so many times in the past, the girl bit his leg hard. She doesn’t escape her father’s wrath though and she eventually sees there’s nothing she can do but marry the duke’s ghost.

Once she reached the man’s mansion, she is startled to find an empty house, abandoned and covered in dust. The closest village is half a day walk, while the location of the mansion is right in the middle of the mountains.

All alone, far away from everyone, Laritte couldn’t contain her happiness. Instead of being scared, she rejoices knowing that there is no one scolding or beating her, no evil sister punishing her for things she didn’t do.

Slowly, Laritte starts making a life for herself, selling old furniture to buy groceries and fire wood. She even plants seeds to grow her own vegetables. She has never been happier than now, being the widow of a traitor she had never even met.

One day, a handsome wounded man finds his way to the mansion and Laritte doesn’t hesitate to care for him. With deep chest wound and high fever, the man seemed to be close to death, but she doesn’t give up, nurturing him until he feels better.

To her surprise, the man turns out to be Duke Ian Reinhardt, her husband. He believes Laritte is actually Rose and the girl doesn’t dare to tell him the truth, as she is afraid that he would take her home to her father.

Duke Reinhardt confesses that he had been framed and he possesses the one thing that could prove his innocence, but he will have to attend the spring ball, where all royal members will attend. The girl is fond of the duke and decides to help him.

After clearing his name, Ian goes to fetch his wife from the count’s house but unbeknownst to him, Laritte had been abducted, beaten and taken away at her sister’s orders, who found out about the duke’s whereabouts.

Rose wants Ian for herself and her sister is standing in her way. What will Duke Ian Reinhardt do when he learns that the woman living in his house for months was not the same girl betrothed to him? Will he be willing to accept an illegitimate wife?

Part 2: The Ghost Duke And The Unwanted Child In When The Count’s Illegitimate Daughter Gets Married

Laritte is the female lead character in When The Count’s Illegitimate Daughter Gets Married. She is one badass heroine.

Laritte may not be physically strong, but amazingly she preserves a strong positivity and refuses to be completely shattered by the continuous abuse from her family.

Although she acknowledges the possibility of being rejected and even punished by Duke Ian upon his finding out the truth about her identity, this won’t stop the girl from tending to his wounds and enjoying her time with the man.

I don’t know which appealed to her more, the possibility of living in a mansion far away from her parents and evil sister or the loving Ian. I think she kind of came to terms with the fact that the duke might choose Rose over her, thus her sorrow focused on the house that granted her freedom and happiness for few months.

When The Count's Illegitimate Daughter Gets Married Ian

She is bold enough to pretend to be crazy while trying to save Ian from the guard who came searching her house after receiving a tip about her hiding a fugitive, yet she didn’t find the courage to confess her true identity to the duke.

Laritte’s happiness always comes from small things such as a good meal, a beautiful dress or attending a party. This is why Ian is her knight in shining armor. He never hesitated to bring her joy.

Ian is a fair Duke devoted to his country, thus he doesn’t hesitate to go to war to protect his people. Although he is betrayed by someone close to the Imperial family, he doesn’t back down and devises a plan to clear his name and status.

Duke Ian is considerate and fond of his servants, whom he considers his family. This is why they are just as devoted and willing to do anything for their master. They caringly tend to Laritte when Ian brings her after the serious beating the girl received at her sister’s orders.

The Duke puts the girl who saved his life above everyone, promising to avenge Laritte for all her sufferings. At first he doesn’t seem to tell whether his feelings towards his wife were gratitude or passion, but as the story progresses it becomes obvious it’s genuine love.
