He’s what everyone calls a ‘Machiavellian’, the term commonly used for characters who don’t possess the typical prowess of a hero. Instead, shows the habitual traits of a villain. Lee Kiyoung is the breathing example.
He’s cunning, manipulative, and an opportunist. Usually, the main character having such qualities can drive the plot to its own destruction. We’re so stuffed with the grandeur images of typical heroes, it always comes as a surprise whenever we see novels that bear protagonists that contradict the standard type.
At the very beginning of the story, it was hinted that Lee Kiyoung’s journey wouldn’t be something that will be filled with virtues and moral etiquette. When he entered the game, and the system placed him at the lowest talent level, it’s the telling moment of how he will behave and what will the novel offer to us that we haven’t seen before.
Because of his misfortune to acquire much-favoring statistics, he had no choice but to use anything to survive other than his will. That’s when the line between right and wrong completely blurred into his mind. Instead of choosing a righteous path where no one will be affected, he sprinted to the wrong one, turning his unpleasant behavior into strength and wielding it as a weapon to boost his stats. Without giving so much a damn about the feelings of his companion and players that had to suffer because of his selfishness.
Doing so had become highly effective for him to succeed on the first trial and evade life-and-death situations that almost eradicate him. He fooled players to gain the upper hand, orchestrated schemes that plummeted his stats and asserted dominance over those that are extremely dependent and submissive.
Interestingly, many still believed in him despite his glaring flaws. Women of great qualities followed him like puppies, always begging for his attention and thirsty for the feeling of his touch. Though everything was playing out in his favor, Lee Kiyoung was far from being satisfied.
He wants to see the full potential of his abilities, become an overpowered player that even the gods will cry if he throws a fit, and be deserving of his spot as the natural attention of multiple harems.
Will he be able to succeed in his dream and go back to the real world, fined and talented, and not a loser anymore?
The answer depends on his attachment to fate. If it coincides with his will, hell won’t be able to touch him, and heaven will be his final resting place. But as it turns out, Lee Kiyoung has other plans on his mind.

Because Regressor Instruction Manual falls under the category of the fantasy genre, it’s anticipated the world-building should be top-notch, and something that will help the building of the plot, and serve the rightful ambiance to the audience.
Every scene and major event that unfolded is cooked within an isolated world, a fictional continent that can be compared to that one in the famous anime HunterXHunter. Inhabited by monsters, and operated with a sophisticated system.
As a result, the novel was laced with a grim atmosphere, only to be brightened with the quirkiness and relatability of the characters.
Though there hasn’t been any clear or distinct description of the minutae of the fictional locations, the storyline was delivered well and the scenes felt original and complete.
The system divides the players into classes, levels, and attributes that fit them. What you have in the previous life will be useless in the continent, as you have to go by the new set of rules and lifestyle the system forced everyone to live.
LEE KIYOUNG
For someone who likes to prey upon weak people and likes to show cruelty every time he sees fit, Lee Kiyoung is quite the hearthrob. His handsomeness contradicted the villainess in him, and even that became his weapon.
This is why it became so intriguing when he wasn’t granted, at all, any advantageous abilities that can make him reach the top in a flash. As in NOTHING. Not even the talent to make illusions or produce his own combative instruments.
The reason why this happened is a mystery to him. It’s a relief that the author didn’t make him an overpowering one. Because that would be boring as hell, right? And where will be the justice for his terrible persona if he’d be straight-up powerful and authoritative?
He treats everyone like trash, and can only think of himself. So yeah, apart from Machiavellianism, our guy is also a narcissistic dude.
Don’t get caught up with it, though. Because no matter how evil he seemed or how much hopeless his case appeared, he still managed to have some internal development. Along three hundred chapters or so, he was able to see morality, at long last, in a situation where he usually wouldn’t be able to.
Fun Fact: Human Garbage was his moniker before he got transmigrated. It wasn’t because the people in the world had been too awful or he had been a target of bullying. He actually deserved that because his personality awfully stinks.
Part 3: Conclusion and An Alternative Book on Dreame
True to its gathered feedback and reputation on the internet, it was a fantastic read. The reward I acquired for reading it was terrific and unforgettable.
I couldn’t put it down. Couldn’t even drive it out of my head. Even after finishing the novel version, I had to peruse the manhwa version to state the need it left on my mind. It was astonishing, to say the least. The plot was obviously an overused idea but the characters are what makes it appealing.
They were fleshed out with care. The dialogues felt authentic and natural, sometimes I thought if I’m really reading a webnovel. It was fantasy and yet I was able to relate with them and most of the embarrassing scenes they had to deal with.
Looking for another book that will satisfy you just as much as Regressor Instruction Manual will probably do? Fret not, because we did the liberty of picking up the rightful one that won’t be a disappointment.
